As if the world isn’t complex enough as it is…

Why do people bother to make it even worse by adding artificial and completely unnecessary tension I don’t get. And what I mean by that is an issue that will without a doubt seem shallow and stupid to everyone from the opposite camp: setting non-smokers against smokers and vice versa. I feel I become more and more touchy on the subject with each day. Yesterday a waiter tried to make a joke saying I smoked too much and I was an inch from throwing a memorable tantrum. The last time I was on a plane (about a month ago) the announcement regarding the non-smoking onboard policy was “We want to remind you that smoking on board and especially in the lavatory is absolutely forbidden”. Oh, my, is there a person on this planet left that doesn’t know that!? Apparently yes.

Planes are OK, I don’t argue about that. But what about the travesty called “smoking room” I had the “pleasure” to experience at the Vienna airport? Sure enough at first I didn’t believe my eyes when I saw the sign. It was a glass box with the size of a big aquarium and just as cozy. There’s less air inside than tobacco smoke because there’s no ventilation-for some unclear reason the only window (a very small one) was tightly closed. Is this really the right way to treat grown ups? It was made deliberately humiliating clearly declaring “We’d be happy if you, smokers, die even sooner”. And getting an attitude like that I hope that too.
